Round 1 - 17th April 2010
|
|
The Under 6 Port Saints Bobcats played the Port United Wombats in their first game of the season at Tuffins Lane and although we were down 4-nil at halftime the side fought their way back to 4-3 with Evan kicking back to back goals and then setting up the third for Diljot. These 2 guys worked hard all game and were rewarded for their efforts. In the final moments Brodie received the ball in open space and ran the length of the field to smack it into the back of the net, our net!
Oh well... it was 4 goals a piece, technically speaking. Taylor chased all day and Byron took out the "Bobcat Of the Week" Award for his very enthusiastic effort.

U7's Port Saints Dingos v Wauchope Loggers.
Saints Dingos put in a fantastic effort in their first game of the season.
Kyle Davis and Mitchell Clarke demonstrated their awesome ball skills scoring several goals between them - well done boys! Jaylen Butler played his first game of his soccer career putting in a superb effort proving he has loads of talent and plenty of stamina. Cobe Rose began the season confirming he will be a great 'all rounder' again this year scoring one goal and saving many too. Well done to Ella Wighton who had a great first game showing her 'girl power' in a team of otherwise all boys! Braydn Cook encouraged his team from the sideline nursing a broken collar-bone but can't wait to get amongst the action soon.
Thanks to great competitors, the Wauchope Loggers who put in a superb defensive effort making for an outstanding opening round.

For the first round of the season the Port Saints Under 11 Bears travelled to Wauchope to contest the Wauchope Loggers. It was a tight contest in the first half with only the defensive efforts of Noah Cornale in goals, assisted by his defensive shield of Bryce Gardener, Chris Findlay, Alex King and Adam Franey, keeping the Wauchope team to one goal. For the Bears in the first half the good positioning and decisive left foot of Elijah Mayes pushed the team to a 2 to 1 advantage at half time.
The second half was again a hot contest with Clancy Slowey and Sam Magenis proving formidable in the mid field feeding the front end of Cooper Battiston, Jordan Lickley and Matt Crawford. Sam scored his second goal of the day in spectacular fashion and Clancy successfully converted a penalty shot to bring the game to a close at 4 goals for the Bears and 1 to Wauchope. Special mention to Mitch Everingham who was everywhere, all the time, all day.

U/6 Port Saints Rhinos V Wauchope Axemen (photo attached: U/6 Port Saints Rhinos: Riley Meehan, Coach, Jordi Reed, Liam Roughly and Huon Lickley under pressure from the Axemen)
A great game of action and 110% participation from all players. Goal scorers for the Rhinos were Liam Roughly and Huon Lickley but all players showed glimpses of greatness to come. Jordi Reed and Noah Darrington have pace and style in their field coverage and Dane Young and Riley Meehan booted some whoppers to help set up goals scored. The Axemen were under pressure but managed to put points on the board and maintain the chase until the very end.

U/6 Port Saints Under 6 Bobcats were at home against the Rattlesnakes and got off to a flyer putting 3 goals in the back of the net within the first 5 minutes however by the end of the first half it was the visitors that led by 4 to 3 as the heat took its toll on the young Bobcats. The scores were level shortly after the break but over the next 10 minutes it was the Rattlers who dominated possession and extended their lead 6 to 4. However going into the last 60 seconds the Bobcats showed plenty of ticker and determination and snapped 2 quick goals to finish up with a 6-all draw and their heads held high. Brodie picked up the "Bobcat Of The Week" Award for his non-stop effort, Taylor continues to gain confidence and will be a handful for the opposition as the season goes on, Byron is a big bundle of energy and always goes looking for the ball, Diljot is showing all the skills and is equally as good in attack or defence and Evan continues to dominate up front kicking 4 goals and narrowly missing with some long range shots on a number of occasions.

U7's Port Saints Dingos v Lake Cathie Raiders
Port Saints Dingos were confronted by fierce competitors, the Lake Cathie Raiders, last Saturday. Dingos were under pressure for much of the game narrowly defeating the Raiders.
New team member Tallis Petro played his first game of the season showing his fantastic ball skills to control the ball from one end of the field to the nets securing the first goal of the game. Well done Tallis. Birthday boy Mitchell Clarke worked very hard to break through the Raiders defence to score one goal and saved many including a memorable great save right in front of the nets. A superb effort from Kyle Davis who scored two goals, the second one in the last few minutes of the game securing the Dingos win. Ella Wighton played a great game this week right in the thick of the action showing she's not afraid of the tough competition. Cobe Rose demonstrated his all-rounder actions again this week by being a great full-back plus controlling the ball up the sideline with his left foot kicking skills. Jaylen Butler also played a massive game using his great defending and attacking skills proving he is a great team player. Well done to all the 'Dingos' who, under pressure, worked together to get through the tough defence of the Lake Cathie Raiders.

U/9 Port Saints Leopards V Port Saints Bears (photo attached: Lachlan Darrington on the burst for Port Saints Leopards)
The season opener for the Leopards was a cracking game showing that for both teams its 'Game on" for 2010 .The Leopards and the Bears fought it out for the entire 40 minutes in a very evenly matched game. Lachlan Darrington, Noah Maze, Harrison Northey and Josh Magennis were everywhere good midfielders should be. With Quinn Lickley and Josh Nardella were also fantastic with special mention to Noah Battiston, stepping up the amazing defence in the second half. Marraki Kilpatrick was, as always, terrific up front putting away his first goal for the season.

U/10 Port Saints Bears V Lake Cathie Raiders
Round 2 at Findlay the weather was fine and the bears were warmed up ready to play. We had Riley in goals with Jack, Jimmy and Declan defending. Luke and Isaac were on the wings, with Josh R, Josh D and Christopher up front. The defenders worked hard to move the ball forward for the boys to score. In the second half the defenders became the forwards with Christopher going into goals. The boys worked well together today. Isaac well deserved man of the match from Coach Phil, for his nonstop attacking and defending performance. The final score reflected a great effort by all! Gerard watched on today with an injured knee; hope he is ok for next week.

U/11 Wildcats V Camden Haven Reds
The Wildcats headed to Laurieton to start their 2010 season against the Camden Haven Reds and were eager and ready to play. The 1st half saw the Wildcats seeing most of the ball with great mid field and attacking play. After some excellent defence by Camden Haven, Wildcats found the back of the net courtesy of Lachlan Ross and led 1-0 into half time. While the whole team played an awesome game
Daniel Mottley and Brendan Fuller were fantastic in defence. Bailey Pascoe scored the 2nd goal of the match leading to a full time score of 2-0 to the Wildcats. Well done team!
