Round 3 - 1st May 2010

U/6 Port Saints Bobcats were away to the Port Tigers and for the 3rd successive week they showed plenty of fight to come from behind and win the second half in convincing fashion. The Bobcats struggled in the first half to contain the opposition but at no stage did they give up. A few missed opportunities early in the game could have seen the Bobcats in front at the main break. They came out all guns firing after half time with Byron grabbing 2 goals after some great lead up work from his team mates and Diljot knocked in a 3rd for a brilliant solo effort. Evan, Brodie and Taylor toiled hard against a more aggressive team while Jett made an instant impact on debut and took out the Bobcat Of The Week award.

U/7 Saints Dingos and Port United Dingos went head to head in a gruelling game on Saturday.  Both teams were evenly matched which made for a very entertaining game.  Saints Dingos were under pressure in the first half and with only one sub showed huge determination to come back in the second half to even the score and walk away with a draw.  Cobe Rose deserved the 'man of the match' award, showing his fantastic all-round ball skills once again this week.  Ella Wighton was right in the middle of the action helping the Dingos to a draw. Kyle Davis and Tallis Petro scored the goals whilst Mitch Clarke displayed maximum effort to save many goals and almost score a couple too.  A great game well done to both Saints Dingos and Port United Dingos.

U/7 Port Saints Bears had another fantastic game of soccer against the Port Saints Wolves on the weekend. Some great passing skills were shown by Spence, Sarah and Josh. Mason and Bridget showed how well they can dribble and there was some great defensive work by Jack Fallon at the back and attacking at the front by Theo. Fantastic effort team!
U/8 Port Saints Sharks v Tigers: This week saw an inter club match between the Port Saints Sharks and Port Saints Tigers. Both teams were excited being up against their mates. The match was a high  standard with both teams showing plenty of skills. Shots at goal were a plenty from both sides, but the Sharks had more success hitting the back of the net.  Goals for the Sharks were scored by Jamie Munn, Bailey Anderson, Layni Fenns, Bella Sullivan and Anton Cornale. The Tigers replied with a goal from Tait Hutchison.
U/9 Port Saints Leopards vs. Lake Cathie Blue
Another hotly contested game on display at Findlay on Saturday. All the boys - Josh Magennis, Harrison Northey, Quinn Lickley and Josh Nardella all put in a fantastic effort. Marraki Kilpatrick had a terrific first half in goals and not to be shown up was Noah Mayes displaying a cool head taking on the goalie position in the Second. Noah Battiston and Lachlan Darrington attacked and defended tirelessly throughout the game, deservedly both putting one each away in the net. Lachlan Darrington took out our man of the match award. Well done Leopards.

U/11 Port Saints Wildcats were up against Port Macquarie FC (Tele Pt S&R Club) for their first home game of the season on a beautiful Saturday morning. The game was very exciting and there were some great goal saves by both sides. While everyone played really well, this week Ethan Garden and Lachlan Camilleri were the standout players.  Ethan produced some great attacking play and stepped up to the line to take a penalty shot, a bit nervous about a shot he missed last week, but he put that all behind him and made an excellent shot to score the goal.  While Lachie had a great defensive game and continued playing after he was injured, winning player of the week. The final score was 7-3 to Port Macquarie FC.  Goal scorers for the Wildcats this week were Ethan Garden (1) and Bailey Pascoe (2).
U/11 Port Saints Bears v Camden Haven Red.  Hot and sweaty with only one reserve and the whistle hadn't even gone yet to start the game off. Once it did though - the Bears were straight into attack mode. Camden Haven defended well as the Bears closed in on the goals but it wasn't long before the midfielders and forwards blasted through. Injury early in the game for Bryce Gardener didn't deter the team effort.  Excellent goal by Noah Cornale but unfortunately disallowed. Goal scorers were Sam Magennis, Clancy Slowey and Chris Finlay.  A sterling effort from all players made for an exciting game. Port saints Bears 4 Camden Haven Red 0.

Round 4 - 8th May 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats v Port Saints Tigers: The Bobcats took on their club mates in the Port Saints Tigers last Saturday in what proved to be a breakthrough game for a number of reasons.
The Bobcats put in their best team effort of the season so far by winning both halves in a very tight contest and also sharing the goal scoring honours with Taylor, Byron, Evan and Brodie each putting one in the back of the net while Diljot showed us why he is dubbed Super Boot with his incredible long range strikes and Jett continues to get amongst it showing no fear when the ball gets trapped in the pack. Taylor otherwise known as "Leftie" played his biggest role to date and was rewarded with a goal when he raced up the field to support his teammates and position himself beautifully to score. He picked up the Bobcat Of The Week award for his great involvement and will also earn $5 from his Dad! The Bobcats would like to thank the Tigers for their tremendous sportsmanship and effort on the field and it was a pleasure to play such a great group of young footballers.

U7 Port Saints Dingos v Wauchope Axeman: Port Saints Dingos and Wauchope Axeman produced an excellent game this week, with Axeman getting off to a great start scoring in the first minute of the game.  Port Saints Dingos then applied the pressure to the Axeman with Kyle Davis, Mitchell Clarke and Cobe Rose scoring several goals between them and keeping their opponents to one half of the field. Mitchell Clarke gained the 'Player of the match' award, showing superb skills with the ball and scoring goals with great accuracy. In the midfield Ella Wighton, Jaylen Butler and Tallis Petro kept the play moving from one side to another. Kyle Davis and Cobe Rose showed great defence skills limiting the Axemen to only 1 goal for the game. A great game to watch with all kids on both sides enjoying themselves.

U7 Port Saints Bears v Port FC Pythons: The Bears came up against the Port FC Pythons on Saturday and WHAT A FANTASTIC TEAM EFFORT! Every single player from the Bears had an outstanding game.  Tremendous teamwork was shown by all the players with fantastic passing and ball control. Congratulations to the goal scorers Mason Hutchison, Josh Edwards, Spence Irwin and Theo Garland. A HUGE WELL DONE to Mason Hutchison, what an outstanding game Mason! Bridgette Williams had her best game so far and scored TWO goals. Special mention to Sarah Hatherly who tried her absolute best, and came so close to scoring a few goals.  Well done EVERYONE
U8 Port Saints Sharks v Port Macquarie Cobras: A great contest was had by these two teams. In the first minute of the game, Sharks first half keeper  Anton Cornale was put to the test with a great save of a shot from Bailey Spokes. The ball went from end to end with great skills shown from both teams. In the first half the Sharks found the net with goals from Bailey Anderson and Jamie Munn. The solid defence of the Sharks Harrison Burton, Joshua Milner and Charlie Keys keeping the Cobras to one goal from Jack Hawker. The second half was a tight contest with both sides scoring. The Sharks Anton Cornale & Vaughan Lickley scoring while Angus Williams was unlucky with 2 shots hitting the post. Great midfield play was shown by Layni Fenns & Bella Sullivan showed her usual flare with her trademark back heel pass.  The Cobras Bailey Spokes consistent play was rewarded with 2 goals aided by some great team support from Jasper Prestegardi, Charlie Cattel and Callum Barlow. Well done to both sides on a great game.
U9 Port Saints Sharks v Camden Haven Whites: The Sharks had a great game on Saturday against the Camden Haven Whites. It gave them a win and a load of confidence. There were plenty of goals scored in the game and even more saved by the flexible goal keepers. Jesse Winter-Taylor, Caleb McCormick, Liam Johnson and Mitchell Bailey all found the back of the net for the Saints team. The boys will be working on their fitness this week as with only one sub for the team there is not a lot of rest time.

u9 Sharks
U11 Port Saints Wildcats v Port United: The Wildcats headed to Dixie Park for an away game against Port United.  The first half of the game saw most of the ball at the Wildcats defensive end of the field which meant Dylan Orchard had a busy time in goals but did an awesome job with some great saves.  Brandon Bryant was very enthusiastic and positive on the field and never gave up. Every Wildcats player had a fantastic game on a quite warm day with the only goal for the Wildcats going to Alex Ross after a great cross.  Player of the week this week goes to Brandan Fuller for defending tirelessly throughout the game.
U11 Port Saints Bears travelled to Tuffins Lane to contest Port Football Club. Unfortunately the team was one player down and, with Bryce Gardener not fully recovered from last week, were under attack for much of the first half. It was only the good efforts of Noah Cornale, Alex King and Chris Findlay that kept the opposition down to 1 goal. In the second half Matt Crawford also retired hurt and so the Bears were down to 9. Again desperate defence kept the opposition from scoring but something had to give and a flurry of goals left the tiring Bears with little answer. Standout player of the day was Adam Franey in goals who delivered a courageous performance for the entire game. Well done to the whole squad who kept on trying for the entire game despite being outnumbered and exhausted.

Round 5 - 15th May 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats v Port United Koalas: The Port Saints Under 6 Bobcats tackled the Port United Koalas at Tuffins on Saturday and once again they showed plenty of fighting spirit with an enthusiastic display. The Bobcats missed a number of opportunities in the first half that could have seen them take a handy lead at the main break, but instead the boys had to do plenty of defensive work to keep the Koalas down to just a few goals. Diljot, Byron, Jett and Taylor did a stack of work in the pack to give Brodie and Evan several chances to breakaway and pepper the opposition's net however the Koalas held firm and eventually prevailed as the Bobcats powered home late in 2nd half. Despite receiving an accidental kick Evan soldiered on with his injured ankle and was the lone goal scorer with a sensational strike which also saw him named the Bobcat Of The Week. It's only a matter of time now the boys will put it all together and show their true potential on the field.

U7's Saints Dingos v Wauchope Cedars: Saints Dingos were hosted by Wauchope Cedars last Saturday.  Parents and coaches were rewarded with a 'nail biting' encounter - the Dingos fighting the Cedars strong defence in the second half to score the deciding goal. Well done to Kyle Davis who handled a forceful direct hit in the eye with the ball to come back on and score one of his two goals and the well deserved 'player of the match' trophy.  Mitchell Clarke excelled to also score two goals and after a couple of close misses Tallis Petro also succeeded to score. Braydn Cook (first game of the season after breaking a collar-bone), Cobe Rose and Jaylen Butler were fantastic in assisting the 'team' break through the Cedars defence. Thanks to Wauchope Cedars for a great game.

U8 Port Saints Tigers v Wauchope Axemen:  An exciting match between Port Saints Tigers & the Wauchope Axemen saw the Tigers achieve victory for the first time this season, with Isaac Plunkett scoring the winning goal.  Coached by Jo Marsham, the Tigers showed brilliant defence, denying the Axemen several goals.  With many of the team new to the sport, the combined team effort was fantastic!  Charley Terry was an awesome goalie; some powerful kicks by Tate Hutchison, Chris Hamilton & speed machine, Jack Hyde, saw both teams constantly tearing up the field.  Tobias Marsham, Roy Krebs, Patrick Brown & Tim Myhill played a crucial role in defending the ball.  Great spirit & team play by both sides!!

u8 Tigers
U11 Port Saints Wildcats v Port Saints Cougars: It was a Port all Saints affair on Saturday for a Wildcats home game.  The game started out fast and furious and continued that way for most of the game. Every Wildcat player played to their position, with great communication on the field and produced a number of fast attacking breaks.  Jacob Oakes kept the defensive pressure on the opposition, while Clare McLachlan stood out in the mid field with some great passing.  What a fantastic game everyone had, the coach was so excited that he wished that he had a "player of the week" trophy to give to everyone!  This week though the Wildcats player of the week goes to Lachlan Ross aka Bill our goalie who produced some brilliant goal saving dives - which I'm sure even Mark Schwarzer would have been proud of!  Goals this week went to Alex Ross (1) and Ethan Garden (1).  Final Score 2-2.
Round 6 - 22nd May 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats v Wauchope Sawmillers: The Port Saints Under 6 Bobcats faced the Wauchope Sawmillers at home and came away with their best team effort of the season and a comprehensive win. From the kickoff the Bobcats showed greater enthusiasm and a willingness to chase the ball around the field in both attack and defence. Although the boys failed to capitalize on a number of opportunities in the first half the Bobcats led with a lone goal at the main break. The second half was all one way traffic with Diljot Saini kicking the goal of the season so far with a long run down the sideline before angling the ball back in towards the centre and with the opposition closing in quickly he gave the ball an almighty smack avoiding the cluster of players and nearly tearing the goals out of the ground as it ripped into the back of the net. 3 more goals followed during the final 10 minutes. Byron Frost-Batterson continues to impress by showing great determination in getting the ball out of the pack, Brodie Agland sprints down the field with amazing ball control time and time again, Taylor McMurtrie is often our last line of defence and does a great job slowing down the opposition, Jett Masters is full of tricks on the field and often bamboozles the opposition with his ball work and Evan Lipovac chases all day and covers a lot of ground often scoring at one end of the field and then dropping back to prevent one from being scored. This week's goal scorers were Diljot, Byron, Evan and Brodie with Diljot picking up the Bobcat Of The Week award. A big thank you to the Wauchope side who tried very hard all game with Jayden Barker the best of the Sawmillers.

U7's Saints Dingos v Port United Emus: Port Saints Dingos encounted Port United Emus on Saturday. Dingos showed great teamwork to overcome the Emus in a fantastic game. Incredible effort to the 'player of the match' Ella Wighton who proved, once again, that she loves getting in amongst the action and showing her 'girl power'.  Well done Ella!! Mitchell Clarke, Tallis Petro and Kyle Davis scored 12 goals between them.  Awesome guys!! Jaylen Butler, Braydn Cook and Cobe Rose produced fantastic ball skills to support their fellow team members to score.  Well done Dingos! Thanks to the hosts, Port United Emus, for a great game.
u7 Dingos
U8 Port Saints Sharks v Wauchope Sawmillers: Well what a great match! From start to finish both teams showed great energy and drive and had the spectators out of their seats cheering. Shots at goal were a plenty testing the keepers. Some great saves were made for the Sawmillers by Max Roods and Ben Bannon, and for the Sharks Gus Williams and Laney Fenns. Gus was also unlucky not to get a goal in the second half after a great individual run the length of the field. Those that found the back of the net were Bailey Anderson, Vaughan Lickley, Harrison Burton and Charlie Keys for the sharks and Lucas Grigg for the Sawmillers, who showed he could even play with only one boot!!. Great midfield play was seen with Nathan Garret, Riley Mullot, Chad McGovern and Zac for the Sawmillers and for the Sharks Jamie Munn, Bella Sullivan and Anton Cornale. Harrison Sullivan was excellent in defence as usual for the sharks, as were the Sawmillers Jay Cooper, Bradley Doaden, Nathan Graham and Lachlan Eggert. Well done to both sides.
U8 Port Saints Tigers: A great first half played by the Tigers with Jack Hyde scoring early in the game.   Some 'oh-so-close' goals by Tate Hutchison and Tobias Marsham!  Tim Myhill took 'Player of the week' award.  Charley Terry, goalie, showed great tactics and skill in throw-ins and seizing of ball.  Patrick Brown also did a fantastic job stopping the ball in his goalie reign, but the Emus managed a few goals in close succession, leading to their win.  Chris Hamilton & Roy Krebs broke the tight tackle packs regularly with their fearless big kicks.   Great skill & play by Isaac Plunkett, despite his battering by the ball.
u8 Tigers

U9 Port Saints Sharks v Port United Emus: The Port Saints Sharks had a ripper of a game against the Port United Emus. Each of the boys played an important role in their win. Harry Noonan showed some great goal keeping skills picking up every ball that came his way. Caleb and Liam both scored more than once. Their scores were added to by Logan, Mitchell and Lachlan. The award for persistence and patience however must go to Jesse who was in the action the whole game, had plenty of attempts at goal and never gave up. Well done boys.

U11 Port Saints Wildcats v Port Saints Rhinos, 0-5: The Wildcats had a tough game on the weekend, but held in there until the final whistle.  Going into half time they were only 2-0 down.  Bailey Pascoe defended tirelessly, but the Rhino attackers kept at it and made the most of their opportunities and came away with a 5-0 win over the Wildcats.   Alex Ross is starting to control the mid field and feeding some good ball down to Ethan Garden who was named player of the match this week, he fought well against his defenders for the ball and made some good attacking plays.

Round 7 - 29nd May 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats v Camden Haven Sapphires
The Port Saints Under 6 Bobcats made it back to back victories following a tight tussle with the Camden Haven Sapphires in Laurieton in one of the few non-competitive games to be played in the Hastings. Despite the cold, wet and slippery conditions Brodie, Byron, Jett, Diljot & Evan worked hard to keep moving the ball down field and create some opportunities to score. In the end Evan's 2 goals in the first 5 minutes was enough to seal victory although the Sapphires did score their one and only goal mid-way through the first half. The second half was a dour struggle with neither team being able to score again. The Bobcats worked hard and showed plenty of ticker and enthusiasm in the greasy conditions keeping the opposition bogged down in their own half for the majority of the game and the Haven side were courageous in defending their goal line to keep a number of attempts out of the net. Evan picked up the weekly player award although everyone in the team deserves praise for their effort.

U8 Port Saints Wildcats
Torrential rain and a sodden Wauchope pitch could not dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of the U8 Wildcats. The team had to work hard this week with only one reserve available as key player Cian was on dancing duties at the Taree Eisteddfod. Golf umbrellas were the order of the day for the large crowd as they witnessed a fantastic start with Emmeline scoring two very spectacular early goals.  Defender Ryan followed the coach's instructions to the letter and was rock solid. Player of the Week, Sarah, produced a near perfect goal keeping display in the first half. Robbie M, Phoebe and Paige showed great determination in the wet and difficult conditions throughout the match.  The extra supply of oranges at the half time break was greatly appreciated. The second half was tightly contested and there were numerous highlights. Robbie C showed impressive skills with a lightning quick break away and firm strike on goal only to be beaten by the crossbar. Malachy was tenacious and proved to be a most important defender. It was a very wet but enjoyable morning at Wauchope. Well done -a great team performance.

U9 Leopards v Port United Goannas:
The Leopards were zoned in again on Saturday despite driving rain and slippery conditions, Quinn Lickley scoring the opening goal but he wasn't sure because it was raining so much it was hard to see! And Marrraki Kilpatrick picked up a hat rick in the second half. Josh Magennis, Noah Mayes and Lachlan Darrington  were fantastic in the midfield and Harrison Northey and Noah Batiston defending like demons. Player of the Match went to Jayden Barber for consistent attack and defence and reading the game so well. Well done Leopards.

U10 Port Saints Bears v Camden Haven White
Don't let the weather get in the way of a great game of soccer, which was the opinion of the mighty U10 Port Saints Bears. The boys ran onto the field in the pouring rain to go head to head with Camden Haven White. The first half saw a great completion between the two sides. Out on the wings, Luke Murphy & Jimmy Gilbert did a fantastic job defending an attacking Camden Haven. Meanwhile Chris Michell and Declan Harrison worked hard in the forwards. Jack Gilmour & Isaac Demaria where as always solid in their defence. At half time the two teams still had no points on the board. The second half saw the Bears score a few goals thanks to some solid chasing by Josh Ross and a great corner from Riley Smith. The Bears continued their goal scoring through constant attacking and passing by Gerard Cassegrain and Josh Dwyer with his great pace and never give in attitude. GREAT WORK BEARS.

u10 Bears

U11 Port Saints v Lake Cathie Raiders, 3-6
The Wildcats headed to Lake Cathie for a very wet game and with no subs the boys didn't have much of a chance to stay dry.  The whole team played really well in very wet conditions.  Lachlan Ross came away with some great goal saves and scored the 3 goals for the Wildcats.  Noah Agland played well in the mid field, defensively and as attacker.  Jacob Oakes was named player of the week this week, he stuck to his player and never gave up chasing.
