Round 12 - 3rd July 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats tackled the Port FC Tigers at home and although the boys tried hard all game they were outclassed by a more enthusiastic opposition. Despite being down by a couple of goals early in the game the Bobcats struck back in the 2nd half with a classy goal to Evan after some great lead up work by his teammates. Diljot and Brodie made a couple of breaks down field but failed to convert while Byron, Taylor and Jett had their work cut out stopping the Tigers as they continued to pepper our goals for most of the game. The opposition only added 1 more goal in the second half as the Bobcats diffused numerous attempts and they can hold their heads up high for a gutsy effort under extreme pressure. Diljot picked up the weekly award for his outstanding all-round contribution.

U6 Port Saints Bears v Camden Haven Reds
Under sunny skies at Finlay park the Bears took on  the Camden Haven Reds, the Bears and coach Dean wanted to make up for their debut down at Laurieton many weeks ago in round one.  Both teams came out firing with the Reds sliding through our defence and scoring a couple of goals, with the tension rising just before the halftime bell, Hayden slipped through some would be defenders and slotted a goal just before halftime. A stirring speech by coach Dean at halftime had all the Bears focused on their job at hand. Jonathon and Jordan were great up front, both searching for the back of the net, Ben was rock solid in defence saving many goals and with the Bears moving forward with great teamwork it allowed our girl power Lucy to slot in a couple of goals also. A great game, which was witnessed by a large crowd who all went home very satisfied after a terrific match by two very competitive teams. Well done

U8 Port Saints Wildcats v PM FC Expressway Spares
Another fantastic effort from the Wildcats. It was an extremely tightly contested and exciting game. Both teams played to an exceptional standard creating many opportunities throughout the game. However, the defences held strong as the first goals were not scored until the final stages of the match. Player of the week, Malachy, starred as first half goalkeeper with many brilliant saves including a very brave use of his face. The team was struck down with illness during the week and luckily Robbie M, Cian and Ryan made timely recoveries to all play extremely well. Attackers Sarah and Paige were enthusiast in their valiant attempts to take the ball goalwards. Emmeline's characteristic determination finally paid off with a spectacular goal from long range in the last stages. Great team effort Wildcats.

U8 Port Saints Tigers v Wauchope Turtles
The pressure was on for Tigers today as the Turtles scored several goals by deflection, ultimately winning the match.  Jack Hyde & Charley Terry - fast, fearless & feisty players, did their usual brilliant work - spending much time sliding across the dirt - true boys!  Isaac Plunkett & Tate Hutchison made several great attempts at goals with one by Isaac rebounding off top corner of goal post.  Isaac will have a sore head after his many head shots. Patrick Brown & Charley Terry proved themselves in goals, again, whilst Tim Myhill, Chris Hamilton & Tobias Marsham were in the thick of it all game hot on defense.

U11 Port Saints Bears v Wauchope Axemen
The Port Saints Under 11 Bears hosted the Wauchope Axemen in a hard fought duel at Findlay last Saturday. With only the bear eleven players against the Wauchope players it was always going to be a tough encounter. Unfortunately for the bears they were still in hibernation in the first minute and Wauchope capitalised to score an early goal. The Bears rallied and started to play some of excellent defensive and offensive play for the rest of the half. However and excellent Wauchope strike sent the game to 2 nil at half time. The Bears rallied during the break and pulled out all stops in the second half to give visiting player Riley Smith a crack into the back of the Wauchope net. Both teams put in a 110% to see produce some exciting passing football but unfortunately for the Bears the score line wouldn't budge and Wauchope went home the victors. All of the Bears played in a true competitive spirit with special mention to Noah Cornale who displayed previously unseen flair and enthusiasm in the central role and Matt Crawford who seemed to brick up the Bears goal in the second half.

Round 13 - 17th July 2010

U6 Port Saints Bobcats v Port Saints Lions
The Port Saints Under 6 Bobcats took on their club mates the Lions in game of 5 on 5 in a hard fought clash that saw all the Bobcats (Jett, Taylor, Byron, Brodie, Diljot and Evan) heavily involved from start to finish and eventually prevail. The whole team moved as one in both defence and attack but it was a long distance shot from Evan kicked from his own goal line, which sailed over the heads of the opposition and then with two bounces rolled into the net for an amazing goal which also secured him man of the match honours. It was a tremendous team effort with everyone making a significant contribution which prevented the Lions from scoring and allowed Evan to score three for the game. Well Done Bobcats.

U7's Saints Dingos v Lake Cathie Raiders Yellow
Saints Dingos were hosted by a fired up Lake Cathie Raiders last Saturday.  Saints Dingos were in 'school holiday' mode, with lots of chatting, laughter and dancing (thanks Ella for your lovely routine).  As not a lot of concentration was on the game, the Saints Dingos suffered their first defeat of their soccer careers, losing by one goal. Goal scorers Mitchell Clarke and Kyle Davis managed to get around the tough Raiders players - well done boys.  Cobe Rose was fantastic in defence and earned the 'player of the match' trophy this week. Tallis Petro narrowly missed scoring on a number of occasions - awesome effort Tallis.  Jaylen Butler, Braydn Cook and Ella Wighton all had a great, fun game. Thanks to Lake Cathie Raiders Yellow for a great game.

U7 Port Saints Bears v Port United Emus
The U7 Bears came up against the Port United Emus on Saturday and showed what a great team they are when they use the whole field. The team really played as one and supported each other with fantastic passing. The goal scorers this week were Theo (welcome back from holidays buddy), Josh and Spence. Well done again this week to Sarah Hatherly who continues to improve each week.

U8 Port Saints Sharks v Port United Koalas
Well what a match we had. The recent World cup and holiday break obviously inspired these youngsters to display some magnificent skills and teamwork. We even had a vuvuzela in the crowd to cheer the players on. Shots on goal were aplenty. Goalies Layni Fenns and Vaughan Lickley for the Sharks, and Joshua & Alex for the Koalas all displayed great reflexes to defend their goals. The defence was also very strong from the sharks Joshua Milner, Charlie Keys and especially Harrison Burton, and the Koalas Naeel, Jack & Jamie. Skilful ball play did get results for both sides. Those hitting the back of the net were, for the Sharks top scorer Bailey Anderson, Layney Fenns & Anton Cornale. For the Koalas Daniel Smith & Jordan Thomson. Vaughan Lickley was unlucky with a great shot hitting the cross bar.  Great midfield play was shown by the sharks Charlie, Josh & Bella Sullivan. The Koalas midfield of Chloe, Andrew & Matthew also displayed great determination and ball play. All in all a great match and exceptional skills shown by both teams. Well done to the Koala's and the Shark's.

U11 Port Saints Wildcats v Port United Dragons 2-1
The Wildcats headed off to Dixie Park on Saturday for an away game against Port United Dragons. A weeks rest must have done the boys the world of good because they were hungry and competing for the ball until the final whistle and with no subs it didn't seem to matter that they couldn't get off the field for a rest.  Everyone played well from the goalies, the backs, mid fielders and forwards.  The Wildcats had a number of shots and were unlucky not to find the back of the net more often.  Noah Agland and Brandon Bryant made all the difference in mid field moving the ball well down to their attackers.  Alex Ross aka Bear had a fantastic game and scored the Wildcats two goals and was named player of the week. The Wildcats came away with a great win and the Port Saints cheer squad watched a fantastic game.

Round 14 - 24th July 2010

U7’s Saints Dingos v Port United Dingos
Saints Dingos hosted the United Dingos last Saturday. Saints Dingos were without two of their fabulous players this weekend, with both Tallis Petro and Mitchell Clarke away.  Tallis will not be back this season after breaking his wrist we wish you well in your recovery Tallis and hope to see you ‘fighting fit’ in 2011. Kyle Davis scored the only goal for the Saints Dingos well done Kyle. Kyle also deserved the player of the match trophy for being a fantastic attacker and defender. Jaylen Butler, Braydn Cook, Ella Wighton and Cobe Rose put in a fantastic effort, under pressure and with only one sub, to try and hold off a determined United side. Thanks to Port United Dingos for a great game.

U11’s Port Saints Wildcats v South West Rocks Hercules 5-1
The Wildcats headed to Findlay Park for a home game against South West Rocks Hercules and started the first half with great enthusiasm by every player on the field, especially the defenders who managed to stop the Hercules attack from the back. The midfielders, including Alex Ross, Brandon Bryant and Bailey Pascoe were awesome and fed the ball well to the Wildcats attackers. Brandon Bryant took the ball up from half way and was very unlucky not to score his first goal, his great game though scored him player of the week. In the second half the Wildcats goalie, Lachlan Ross was injured with a knock to his head, but courageously he played on. Goal scorers for this week were Daniel Mottley (3), Ethan Garden (1), Alex Ross (1) and Bailey Pascoe (1).
