MEDIA RELEASE: Port Macquarie Duo Selected in Northern NSW Under 12 Boys Squad to Participate in Saitama International Tournament Port Macquarie's Riley Smith and Angus Thurgate have been selected by Northern NSW Football Technical Director David Smith and Under 12 Boys Head Coach Andy Lennon as part of a 16 player squad to participate in Japan's Saitama International Tournament in July.

The squad was selected from a group of 52 players following a three day camp held between January 8th and 10th at the University of New England, Armidale, where NNSWF High Performance coaches put the boys through their paces.

According to Head Coach Andy Lennon, the calibre of group was extremely high and the task of selecting a 16 player squad from such a talented pool was challenging.

"We worked with 52 of the best kids throughout Northern NSW brought in through the Centre of Excellence program," said Lennon.

"The improvement of the players' technical ability over the last year is unbelievable, so to pick 16 players out of 52 after three days was very difficult", Lennon concluded.

The Northern NSW squad will arrive in Japan on July 24th and the tournament will occur at the home of J-League team Urawa Reds in Saitama, Tokyo, where 24 teams (16 Japanese and 8 International) will compete.
